What are little girls made of / Volume I – Meghan, sculpture of gelatin, 2009
“What are the little girls made of /Volume I - Meghan” is consisting of three headless bodies of a large woman (approximately 100 kg), made out of gelatine.
Three “prints” are three scultures that come from the same giant jelly mold, of the same shape and size, but differing from each other in colours and textures. The layers of red, white and every shade in between leave the impression of a real human body, without the protective layer of skin.
In time the sculptures will develop the spots of mold on them, that will change in time.
Exhibiting the sculptures outdoors could be considered.
It could be taken – but not necessarily – as a critic towards contemporary body standards and thus introducing young females to the eating disorders, objectifying women, womans body as the most overused object... Or as irony toward it all -- a double-triple joke. Name your feminist pet peeve. It takes 16 kg of gelatine to make one sculpture. was exhibited during the Culture Factory Festival in Tallinn in August 2009. Its sequel, “What are the little girls made of /Volume II - Liisa”, the torso of a much larger woman, was exhibited at Fountain Art Fair in Miami i December 2009.
