The installation consists of two silver-coloured toasters. If you insert slices of bread into the toasters, burnt images appear: portraits of the most recognisable iconic faces, saints, martyrs and cult leaders from different belief systems. The faces of Jesus, Che Guevara, Lenin, Charles Manson.
The idea came from news stories about the face of Jesus being found on a slice of bread, usually in some Catholic country. Or, in some Islamic country, a quote from the Koran appearing on a slice of cucumber. Kind of common miracles. The two toasters are exhibited with slices of bread, so the audience can “print” those temporary graphic artworks, either to take those with them, to eat the slices of bread with portraits or to leave them to be part of the installation.
